The importance of sports and games in Roots Millennium Schools encompasses more than just the benefit of physical activity. Increases in self-esteem and mental alertness make school sports and games necessary for every school age child. Students actively participate in all kind of sport activities organized by the sports society in schools. We aim to support the delivery of high quality School Sport through RMS Sports & Games Society. We work to enhance the quality of sporting opportunities through the curriculum, out of school hours learning, professional development opportunities for teaching professionals, intra- and inter-school competition and developing the young volunteers of the future. RMS provides excellent opportunities for the development of sporting prowess in children. Games are compulsory and our students have traditionally excelled in athletics, football and cricket. Those intending to join any of the sports societies like the squash, shuttle badminton or table tennis societies should be equipped with the necessary gear. All sport activities are conducted under the guidance of respective coaches. Interest in all games is kept alive throughout the year through various inter house competitions. In Millennium Schools, games are a unique opportunity to motivate and inspire students across the system to take part in more competitive school sport. No matter what their experience, talent or ability, the School Games is open to all young people. It is designed to complement existing initiatives currently in schools, which encourage young people to participate in sport. It also provides opportunities to participate in art and cultural events included in opening and closing ceremonies.
Sports Society links aim to create many opportunities for young people to take part in sport inside and outside of school. Formal links between sports society and school is a great way to encourage children to continue playing sport after school and also create a pathway towards competitive and elite sport. Effectively, the purpose of a RMS Sports & Games Society is to provide a pathway from school sport to community society sport, to enable young people to actively engage in sport in both environments as participants, volunteers, coaches and/or officials. Sports at RMS, whether team-based or individual, are a great activity for students that provide a variety of benefits other than physical activity. RMS ensures participation of every student in sports & games under the Sports Society as it is an excellent avenue to promote health and fitness; parents and coaches must encourage healthy living and be positive role models as well.
