At The Millennium Education, each year is allocated a specific theme to which all the yearlong curricular, extracurricular, and co-curricular activities are aligned. The Academic Year 2021-22 has been envisioned as the “Year of Visible Learning and Well-being”. As we strive to heal from the COVID-19 pandemic and its repercussions, if there is one learning that all educators and educational institutes will take forward is, the primacy of well-being of our students. For this we, educational leaders at TME, need to understand that we have been entrusted with the world’s most valuable resource: children. This is our obligation to ensure all children live up to their full potential and their well-being is taken care of though visible and transparent learning.
We consider visible learning a journey from just being a teacher to being an active, powerful, passionate, and accomplished teacher who is aware of the learners’ profiles and focuses on building positive relationship with them, who engages them cognitively, who develops their ways of thinking and reasoning, and who creates opportunities for learners to learn, unlearn and relearn; thus, putting their well-being on top priority. All these highlighted aspects are core to visible learning.
What ensures meaningful learning? As director Academics at TME, I ask this question every day and spend hours researching to find the right answer. Based on research, schools that make a difference are the ones that endeavours to consider it their utmost priority to ensure;
- Visible and Transparent Learning
- Learners’ Well being
- Enhancement of Teacher’s Perspective of Self- Evaluation
At The Millennium Education, we believe that meaningful learning is only possible when both teacher and learners display required skills and knowledge as in these times of uncertainty only constant is change. For this, each Millennial must be equipped with the most appropriate skillset to strive in the 21st century and the best way is that every teacher must ensure rationalization of learning process through pedagogical construct, experiential learning from abstract to concrete, feedback & forward and evaluation of teaching & learning. In short, what is most important now is that teaching must be visible to learners and learning must be visible to teachers.
This is not an option anymore and is only possible when teaching & learning is visible through a passionate teacher. We consider visible learning and well-being not just another recipe for success, another quest for certainty and another unmasking of truth but for every teacher, it is the way of THINKING.
My role as a facilitator, evaluator, and the effect I have on my learners
“KNOW THY IMPACT”
Throughout the academic year, we shall be ensuring that our schools and colleges curriculum, co-curricular and beyond the classroom teaching and learning revolves around the visible learning and well-being of the learner and the synergy between the two. It is this synergy that supports learner’s unfolding capacities to live fulfilling and meaningful lives.
